School Snapshot
To give back to the community where they live and attend school, students from the Mathematics, Civics, and Sciences Charter School, located on Broad Street near Spring Garden get organized every Thursday to make hundreds of sandwiches and toiletry bags to give out to the homeless and others in need. Afterwards, students and staff gather (left) to pray for the well-being of everyone involved. Students deliver food, beverages, toothbrushes, deodorant and other necessities, as well as warmer clothes for the upcoming winter, under the guidance of the school's founder and chief administrative officer, Veronica J. Joyner. One 11th grader observed, "You don't realize how bad some people really have it until you come out here and see it for yourself."
