Shortchanged ... on small schools
Unlike brand-new small schools, converted small schools did not get:
- a full year of planning
- a principal hired a year in advance
- the ability to assemble a faculty that was in tune with the mission
- freedom to adapt the standardized curriculum
- increased teacher allotment to help fully develop the school’s electives, theme, and mission
- the option to start up one grade at a time
- buildings that were constructed or renovated to suit the school’s unique needs
