Shortchanged ... on school facilities
- A 2005 study estimated the total cost of needed improvements to the School District’s facilities at $7 billion.
- The District is slated to spend about $1.6 billion on capital improvements over the next 5 years.
- Besides Willard, other projects that have languished on the District’s list of buildings to be replaced include proposed new facilities for Kensington, West Philadelphia, Dobbins, Bok, Carver, and Overbrook High Schools. Only Kensington and West are still slated to receive new buildings; the others are now targeted for major renovations.
