Wed. July 1. Philadelphia Museum of Art visits Cecil B. Moore. 12:30-1:30 p.m. 2320 Cecil B. Moore Ave. The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be at the Cecil B. Moore Library Branch to present an interactive art experience. Teachers and interns from museum will make art come alive for children, teens, and their caregivers. July 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30 Basic Computer Classes. 1-2 p.m. School District of Philadelphia Education Center, Parent and Community Resource Center (first floor), 440 N. Broad St. Jay Cohen of Communities in Schools will provide instruction on various topics, including use of the mouse and keyboard, what to look for when buying a computer, Internet access, Web browsing, and printing and saving information. Wed. July 8. Families First Training. 5:30-8 p.m. COMHAR, Inc., Vanderwoude Center, 3825 Whitaker Ave. Information about those with developmental delays or disabilities: learn about Individual Family Service Plans, Individual Education Plans, and how to get help for your child. The training is conducted by the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University and funded by Philadelphia Mental Retardation Services and Elwyn SEEDS. Wed. July 8, 15, & 22. Discover Breakthrough: Visiting Days. 9-10:30 a.m. Please join the students, teachers, staff, and board members of Breakthrough (formerly Summerbridge) during the July visiting days. See the six-week academic summer program in action. Meet the remarkable 7th and 8th grade students who are aiming for college with the help of Breakthrough’s intensive six-year academic support program. And meet college students headed for careers in teaching who are gaining experience, mentoring, and confidence as Breakthrough summer teachers. Wed. July 8. Vocational Trades for Your Children. 5 p.m. School District of Philadelphia Education Center, Parent and Community Resource Center (first floor), 440 N. Broad St. A member of District Council 21 will discuss painting, drywall finishing, and glazing trades for your children after they graduate from high school. Applications will be available for 2009-2010 Vocational Intern Partnership Program that the Finishing Trades Institute and the School District of Philadelphia run for 11th and 12th graders. Fri. July 10. Early Childhood Programs. 1 p.m. School District of Philadelphia Education Center, Parent and Community Resource Center (first floor), 440 N. Broad St. This workshop will inform communities about early childhood programs like Head Start. Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program for low-income three, four, and five-year-olds. Thu. July 16. YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School Enrollment Workshop. 1 p.m. School District of Philadelphia Education Center, Parent and Community Resource Center (first floor), 440 N. Broad St. YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School provides out-of-school youth with tools, supports, and opportunities that enable them to earn their high school diploma while learning valuable job skills. Ongoing

Summer Learning and More (SLAM) 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (morning sessions); 12:30–2:30 p.m. (afternoon sessions). On July 1, school doors and classrooms at over 130 schools will reopen to all children in the District who signed up to experience a summer full of learning opportunities. Morning sessions will be academic and open to students for enrichment or for remediation and credit recovery. Afternoon sessions will be for students who wish to explore other interests or develop their creative talents in areas such as art, music, and dance. For information, contact your school principal.
