Job opportunity: Managing Editor
Founded in 1994, Philadelphia Public School Notebook is an independent, nonprofit news service that serves as an information source and a voice for parents, students, teachers, and others in the community who are working for quality and equality in Philadelphia public schools. A quarterly newspaper and extensive Web site provide in-depth coverage of the schools.
Philadelphia is the fifth largest city in the nation. The school system is a multiple provider model with more than 260 District schools, some operated directly by the School District, others by education management companies, universities, or other nonprofits. It also has one of the largest charter school networks in the nation. In addition, the District is overseen by a governing partnership between the city of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The city’s education reforms are closely watched by educators and government officials across the country.
