Mark your calendar for a special Notebook celebration on June 8, 5-7:30 PM, University of the Arts, Hamilton Hall, 320 South Broad Street. The Notebook celebrates its tenth anniversary and ten years in the fight for educational equity! We are looking for volunteers to help make this event a success. Lend your talents to one or more of many areas including outreach, program, and silent auction. March 6: Faheem Thomas-Childs “Hands Without Guns” Fundraiser and Anti-Violence Rally/Summit, 1-4 PM, Peirce Elementary, 23rd & Cambria Sts. Event will feature live music, anti-violence messages from special guests, and activities for children. Free admission but donations encouraged. All proceeds will go to Faheem’s family. March 8: ACORN Rally in Washington D.C., 8:30 AM-6 PM. Rally on steps of Capitol for full funding of the No Child Left Behind Act. Meet at ACORN office (846 N. Broad St.) at 8:30 AM for buses. Trip is free, but bring lunch. To reserve a spot, contact ACORN at 215-765-0042 or paacorn@acorn.org.

March 10: School Reform Commission meeting, 1PM, 2120 Winter St., 2nd floor auditorium. To register to speak, call 215-299-7850 by 4:30 the day before the meeting.

March 12: The Unfinished Business of Brown v. Board of Education: An Evening with Congressman Chaka Fattah, 8:30 PM, Congregation Mishkan Shalom, 4101 Freeland Ave. (off Shurs La. in Roxborough). March 19: Deadline for entries to Youth Media Jam Film Festival. The Prince Music Theater hosts its 5th annual youth film festival on May 19-26, 2004. People ages 6-21 can submit films, and there is no submission fee or genre restrictions. For an entry form, visit www.princemusictheater.org/film/ymj. March 21: Speak Out Against Racism, 1:30-5 PM, The Rotunda, 40th & Walnut Sts. Sponsored by the Voices Organizing Project of Temple University, youth will share their experiences and perspectives on racism. Event will also feature rappers, poets, DJs, and dancers.
